Mr. Vivek Nair graduated from St. Xavier’s College, Bombay and went on to study at the School of Hotel Administration, Cornell University.
After returning to India in 1982 and recognizing the need for a Hotel at Sahar, where the International Airport had moved to from Santacruz, the first hotel with 423 guestrooms was set-up in 1986. Later under the mentorship of his father, the late Capt.C.P.Krishnan Nair, the Group expanded to Goa, The Leela Palace, Bangalore, The Leela Kovalam, Kerala, The Leela Palace Udaipur, Rajasthan, The Leela, Gurgaon-Delhi (NCR), the Leela Palace New Delhi (N.C.R.),The Leela Palace Chennai and The Leela Ambience Convention Hotel, Delhi. Currently projects under implementation are at Agra (facing the Taj Mahal), Ashtamudi Lake a backwater resort in Kerala, Jaipur & Chandigarh.
The Leela Group is a Member of the Global Hotel Alliance (GHA), the world’s largest alliance of independent hotel brands. GHA currently comprises of brands such as Anantara, Doyle Collection, First, Kempinski, Leela, Lungarno Collection, Marco Polo, Mirvac, Mokara, Omni, PanPacific, PARKROYAL, Shaza & Tivoli encompassing over 35 hotel brands with 550 upscale and luxury hotels in 76 countries.
Mr. Nair has positioned The Leela Group as a niche player in the luxury hotel segment and aims for its Hotels to be the market leader in terms of RevPAR in all the destinations it operates in.
Mr. Nair also represents the Hotel and Tourism Industry in various Forums and has been the President & Honorary Secretary for 9 years of The Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI), the apex body of the Indian hospitality and tourism industry. Founded in 1955, by the legendary late Rai Bahadur M.S Oberoi, FHRAI and its constituent regional and state associations today are privileged to collectively represent over 25,000 members (4000 Hotels and Restaurants), spanning the length and breadth of our vast country.
He was also CGC Member of the World Travel & Tourism Council, India Initiative (WTTC-II) representing top Hotels, Airlines, Tour Operators, Indian Railways, Tourism Financial Institutions, etc. in India.
He was till recently on the Board of the Tourism Finance Corporation of India (TFCI), which is a Government owned Financial Institutions which funds Hotels, Resorts, Exhibition Centres, Amusement Parks, etc.
He is also the CGC Member of Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC) which has been set-up by the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India and represents various sectors which render services and earn foreign exchange for the country are listed
